Nissan DataScanII OBDII works but 2000 Maxima GLE won't ever fully connect to ECU/ECM so that the ECU part # or software version # are never completed.
I reduced Ini timer to -5, but seems to work ok between -1 and -5.
Also there is no laundry list of choices (or any choices whatsoever) for each of the items under Data Display Settings under ECU.
I'm using the generic data connector because it is apparently impossible to buy the recommended BlaztII adaptor.
I'll buy a forum reader's BlastII for a reasonable price, if that will solve my problem.
I'm impressed with what the potentials are for the Nissan Data ScanII, I'm just not there yet a appreciate any help in arriving.
ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display setting
Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
Did you check if your car also has the 14-pin Consult connector? I think it's in the fuse box in Maximas.
Your car might have the OBDII port for compliance with regulations but all advance diagnostics are still done via the DDL1 connection.

Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
I couldn't find any data connector other than the the OBDII connector and the official Nissan service manual for this model shows that you connect the Consult2 to the OBDII connector.
After a few attempts the ECU function of your data scan software shows the generic OBDII to USB cable connected and the green bar shows activity and several of the function boxes go from gray to black, but idle air and timing do not and neither do the work assist functions.
So it is partially communicating but never after 20 minutes or so finishes enough to make all gray boxes turn black or to type in the ecu serial number or software version number.

And, as I said in my initial post, the grid is there but there are no choices available for designating the data gauges

Did you actually check your car for the 14-pin Consult connector?
Even if the service manual says to connect the Consult II tool to OBDII connector that doesn't guarantee it uses the ConsultII protocol over the DDL2 line. The Consult II tool is backwards compatible and can use the DDL1 line (pin 12 and 13) on the OBDII connector. See the attached Data Link connector wiring for 2000.5 Maxima. It has k-line (DDL2) and SCIRX and SCITX (DDL1) connections.

Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
Yes I checked my 2000 Maxima for the 14 pin Consult connector and found none.
Attached is a photo of the fuse box area under the dash including the OBD2 data link connector.
There is no 14 pin connector of any sort.
I even double checked the connector directly below the fuses with some spliced wires coming out of it and it has only 12 openings.

Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
As you can probably tell from my photo, I removed the plastic trim cover under the dash so I have good access and visibility of all of the wiring under and behind the dash and there is no 14 pin Consult connector anywhere, just the OBD2 connector visible in my photo.
Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
Problem solved and it was my fault.
The OBD2 is the correct and only data link connector on my 2000 Maxima and is now connecting completely to your scan software.
I apparently caused the incomplete connection problem with the ECU when during initial setup I did a ECU search under communication, found an id of 11, and reset the EM from 10 to 11. I took ECU and ECM to be interchangeable terms.
As soon as I switched the ECM setting back to 10, my PC immediately connected with your software through the generic usb to OBD2 cable.
I apologize for wasting your time, Tom, but the 16 pin OBD2 port is the correct and only data link connector on my US, federal standards, 2000 Maxima GLE with manufacture date of 11/1999. There is no separate 14 pin Consult port.

Re: ECU never fully connects, no choices in data display set
Thanks for all your help. Tom.
Using your software I was finally able to get my car to complete an idle air volume relearn which had never before worked when I tried to do it manually while following the official service manual instructions.
So finally my third ECU in this car is working properly.
Transistors in the first two ECU's were fried by shorted electric engine mounts which then triggered a PO505 Idle air control (IAC) valve or circuit malfunction code.
The IAC which I replaced seems to be working fine with my third ECU after doing the idle volume air relearn using your software.

Did you also reprogram your key?
