Consult II program comparison

Post by WhiteXtrail »

I had a look through the topics but didn't see any that related to my question. I have a almost brain dead 2005 XTrail and was going to take it to a garage but after seeing your program thought it might be just as easy for me to purchase the Data Scanner software and cable and trouble shoot myself. But I am a little reserved on how much this program can do. Not being a novice to autos in general but being a novice at the in depth parts of the distribution of the control system I would like to ask this question. Can the Nissan DataScan II do all the necessary trouble shooting that the consult II can do? Is there info that only the consult can do and I would have to take it to a Nissan Dealer anyway for some sort of programming? I know a lot of diagnostic units are only more expensive because they calculate information for you and have inherent values that are streamlined for specific autos.
Hopefully one of you knowledgable people will be able to answer this and it will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you

The NDSII software can do all common trouble shooting tasks. It does not do them all. There are some features on the Consult II device that the NDSII can not perform. Those features are not commonly used and are require for very specific tasks.

The Consult II tool can also connect to control modules that use different type of connections. It would use k-line to connect to the ECM and DDL-1 connection to connect to the TCM. The NDSII software can only connect over the k-line. A lot of cars use a mixture of protocols.

NDSII can not flash any of the ECUs. If you require to flash the ECU to rectify the fault you have to use the ConsultII tool or a J2534 adaptor with Nissan reprogramming software.
