"Communication error! can't read ROM"

I finally got Data Scan working on an old Win 7 laptop and communicating with my ECU in my 1990 Z32 300zx twinturbo. I can read all real time data through my CZP consult cable.

I have three ROMs that came with my car I would like to read. When I try to read the ROM I receive the following message:

"Communication Error! cannot read ROM" or something close to that.

Any ideas?

Is it a stock ROM? It could be that the ROM read function was disbaled by the tuner.
