I bought one of the recommended adapters that was mentioned on the page; it is the VAG-COM one. Not sure if it is the cable itself because they are so damn cheap, but I have to hit connect like 4-10 times before it connects to the car. Also I have noticed that sometimes connectivity will get disrupted and it will lose the connection. Any help here is appreciated.

Try changing the Ini Timer Offset value in settings-> communication window. This should improve your connection reliability.

Do you increase the value or decrease the value?

Try both. On most PCs it needs to be decreased but others increased.
