Steering Angle Sensor Reset Failed

Steering Angle Sensor Reset keeps failing and I showing a C1156 (Steering Angle Comm Circuit) code. Additionally, I am showing zero indication that the software is communicating with the sensor. Turning the steering wheel is not reflected while running the data display. Is this a sensor issue or a software issue? I want to be sure before I pay the ungodly amount for a steering angle senor for an 06 G35. Any help will be appreciated.
