no connection with ecu

Post by R.J. Bijsterbosch »

I have a nissan obd1 to usb interface cable and i'm trying to get NDS1 working but there is no connection. I have the trial version.
I have read all the topics here but it still not working. Maybe i'm doing something wrong.
When plugging the interface in the laptop it's assigned to COM Port 4. And the correct drivers are installed.
When doing the ecu search, no ecu is found. The search is done on COM Port 4. I have a Nissan Skyline R33 GTST from 1994. With a Z32 ECU and Nistune.
Did the search with and without the Z32 function enabled.

I also have erased the complete register file because i've pushed the auto connect button. See below.
•Go to start->Run and type regedit.
•Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\NDataScan" and delete the whole NDataScan entry.
•Close the Registry Editor and try running the software again. It will save the default settings to the registry file.

Maybe someone can help me out.

It sounds like you are doing everything right. You should probably start with the basics.
- Is the engine running when you try to connect?
- Is the consult port wired to your Nistune ECU?
- Becasue it's an older ECU make sure your Consult I adaptor sends the clock signal (154Khz on pin 3). Not all adaptors do that.
- Is the ECU grounded?

Because i got a little bit frustated of searching i stopped searching. HAHAHA.

Now i have trouble connecting the BT adapter also, i thought to start searching again with the usb adapter.

I have checked the cables from the ECU to the OBD connector in my car. See Attached picture. These look ok.

Pin 1 = (-) black/silver ECU channel 60
Pin 2 = (CLK) yellow/red/silver ECU channel 31
Pin 3 = Yellow/green/silver
Pin 4 = Pink silver
Pin 5 = N/A
Pin 6 = N/A
Pin 7 = N/A
Pin 8 = (RX) Brown/yellow/silver ECU channel 21
Pin 9 = (TX) yellow silver ECU channel 22
Pin 10 = N/A
Pin 11 = N/A
Pin 12 = N/A
Pin 13 = (CHK) yellow/purple/silver ECU channel 47
Pin 14 = (IGN) blue/white/silver ECU channel 45

I have cheched the pins on the adapter and the wiring inside the adapter. See Attached picture.

Pin 2 = (CLK) Brown ECU channel 31
Pin 3 = N/A
Pin 4 = N/A
Pin 5 = N/A
Pin 6 = N/A
Pin 7 = red N/A @ ECU ???????
Pin 8 = (RX) orange ECU channel 21
Pin 9 = (TX) yellow ECU channel 22
Pin 10 = Blue N/A @ ECU
Pin 11 = N/A
Pin 12 = N/A
Pin 13 = N/A ??????? ECU channel 47
Pin 14 = N/A ??????? ECU channel 45

Please Advise,

Sorry, I meant clock signal on Pin 2. Check if the adapter is generating the clock signal. You can measure it with a multimeter.

Since you are using a Z32 ECU try the "96 model z32" option in Communication settings. This option overwrites the default ECU response check.

I have measured Hz with my multimeter on pin 2 on my car connector. Measurment is 0 hahaha. But now i see . The clock signal is coming from the adapter not from the ecu. I will try this when i'm at my car in the weekend.
